Mrs G
Please help, We currently have five hens, all apart from one are very well behave. A couple of weeks ago we had two new additions, Cordelia and Meep Meep, whilst Cordelia settled in quite quickly Meep Meep is quite a timid wee thing and Evil Evelyn has seized upon this and taken to bullying her at every opportunity. We are applying anti pecking spray to Meep Meep every day, but this doesn't stop EE from chasing her about the pen, as if that wasn't bad enough the last straw came today when we found EE standing on top of our cat Mollie, pecking her!!!! Mollie is an old lady and doesn't retaliate - but we can't have this happening again - help - what can we do about Evil Evelyn???? Egluntyne
I would isolate her until she has learned some manners. Two or three weeks solitary will allow the other hens to reorganise their pecking order and she will come back bottom of the heap. Have you checked the bullied hen over to make sure she isn't hiding an illness, as this could be what is making her a target.

Plum
Poor old Evelyn is feeling insecure, what about adding to it and keep holding her down to submit so she's not trying to be so dominant. I would give her a few squirts with water when she chases Meepmeep to try and break the habit.
scarlettohara
Your title made me chuckle - my MIL was called Eveylyn and was a bit of a bully Sorry you are having problems
CallyChook
One of my girls was a complete nightmare until we got a cockerel. Instantly she was knocked off the dominant top spot and she has been a love ever since. If you don't want/ cant have a boy, I'd go with the recommendation of solitary isolation for a while and let the other ladies rearrange a pecking order. love the name MeepMeep, fantastic
debbie9946
I know exactly how you feel, it isn't very nice to watch. I have 4 ex batts and one who is a bit of a nuisance. I did find that once they were FR out of the run, the bullying wasn't really an issue, only when they return to the run/shed the bullying starts...... But other than that, I love my girlies dearly, my OH things I am plane nuts. x
Mrs G
Okay, so EE has now been in solitary confinement since Monday. Part of the lawn is ruined and even worse I feel awful, leaving her all on her own. I've been making sure she isn't left out when it comes to treats, but tonight I insisted she is allowed back in the main cube, at least overnight. How long should I leave her on her own?
