karena
I read all the time about how people's chooks looove corn, and it gets them back in the run, trains them to eat out of the hand etc. For a couple of days my chooks did indeed like corn (this is like the dried poultry corn stuff) but now they won't touch it! Not from a hand, not thrown on the ground, not even in their special pink bowl! Nada! I know it doesn't really matter, but does anyone else's chooks not like corn? chickenNutter
Gosh , that sounds a bit bizarre! Are we talking sacks of mixed corn you get from pet/livestock suppliers? Never heard of thatb efore - mine go barmy for it. If it is the right stuff, the only thing I can think of is that it has been stored badly, got damp or something, which has allowed it to go off? Hopefully someone more experienced than me will come along and provide more information.
karena
Yep mixed poultry corn its called. Bought from a poultry suppliers. I've kept it in their food bin, in its paper bag. Its looks fine, it smells fine (as in it doesn't have one). I thought it was odd
tooties
my current chickens love it, but previously I had 3 ex-batts and they wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!! Try mixing a little in with some warm mash, they will eat some by mistake and sometimes once they get the taste for something, its the next new thing!! RobJo
Im new to keeping chickens but on Monday I hung a corn on the cob in the run and my chickens loved it, they were happy swinging the cob around to each other for hours, I have now got some broccolli hanging for them, they like this but not as much as the corn! lougarbard
Mine used to go mad for corn, they still like it now, but they just dont go quite so nuts! Perhaps they prefer all there other treats. I hang cabbage , spring greens and cobs up for them, which they really enjoy. (You can see pics in my other post)
karena
Might try that tooties. Thanks They used to not like fresh corn hung up either. First I had to cut it up and put it in their special bowl. Then lay it on the floor. And now they understand if it is hung up. They also didn't like cabbage hung up but were mad for it if I broke pieces off for them But poultry corn isn't scary

Bramble
I hung up a corn pecking block thing (made for poultry by Johnsons) thinking it'd be a nice treat for the choox, but no, not interested, gave it them several weeks ago, they haven't so much as looked at it! It looks like poultry corn just stuck together into a block (presumably with honey or similar), but choox don't even seem to notice it. sparkysmum
Def not alone Karena, mine aren't fussed by mixed corn either. Wish I'd sussed this out before I'd bought a 20kilo sack
chuckmum6
What strange chickens!!! My girls love it, even when I have given it a coating of cod liver oil - to help them through their molt. Do they like sweetcorn?
karena
Glad I'm not alone. They do like sweetcorn now, but it took them a while. I have slipped some poultry corn in with their mash to experiment so we will see what happens...
