Curious about corn...

Recommended Posts

I read all the time about how people's chooks looove corn, and it gets them back in the run, trains them to eat out of the hand etc.

For a couple of days my chooks did indeed like corn (this is like the dried poultry corn stuff) but now they won't touch it! Not from a hand, not thrown on the ground, not even in their special pink bowl! Nada! :(

I know it doesn't really matter, but does anyone else's chooks not like corn? :?

Gosh , that sounds a bit bizarre! Are we talking sacks of mixed corn you get from pet/livestock suppliers? Never heard of thatb efore - mine go barmy for it. If it is the right stuff, the only thing I can think of is that it has been stored badly, got damp or something, which has allowed it to go off?

Hopefully someone more experienced than me will come along and provide more information.

Might try that tooties. Thanks

They used to not like fresh corn hung up either. First I had to cut it up and put it in their special bowl. Then lay it on the floor. And now they understand if it is hung up.

They also didn't like cabbage hung up but were mad for it if I broke pieces off for them

But poultry corn isn't scary :anxious:

I hung up a corn pecking block thing (made for poultry by Johnsons) thinking it'd be a nice treat for the choox, but no, not interested, gave it them several weeks ago, they haven't so much as looked at it! It looks like poultry corn just stuck together into a block (presumably with honey or similar), but choox don't even seem to notice it.
