Lorax
I've almost equi distant between Cambridge Poultry and the Hen House in Thorndon. Any thoughts on where might be better to go? I don't want anything super fancy, just regular laying chickens.
Florence
Have a friend at work who has used Cambridge poultry and is very positive, all our girls have come from the Hen House,we haven't had any problems ,they have been very healthy and have settled well,so i would recommend them .They have a selection of hybrids plus pure breeds for sale and also have quite a few rare breeds. We have a mixture of speckledy, colombine ,coral star hybrids plus a welsummer and a pair of pekins. They are also great if you have a problem, happy to chat over the phone etc.I would give them a call to see what they have . Lorax
*waves* Most places I go, IRL or on line, people haven't even heard of Suffolk, or get it confused with Sussex! One forum I post on had 3,000 members (99% UK based) and only me and one other lived in Suffolk!
Janty
I'm in Suffolk I have two RIR minis from Hen House but they are mental. They attack everything they can. Another breeder said that that could be a sign of overstocking as chicks but I have to say that the birds are healthy enough.
Lorax
What are RIR minis? Oh no, mental hens? I don't want mental hens or to be attacked...
Janty
Miniature Rhode Island Reds. They attack my HUGE brahmas even though the brahmas will retaliate when provoked. They just never seem to learn.
Florence
Interesting, last time we went to the Hen House (June)Mrs Flory mentioned that they weren't stocking Black Rocks any more as they found they weren't very friendly .Have to say ours are all pretty friendly ,we were warned by several people that Welsummers were not friendly but ours is lovely and feeds from my hand etc
CatieB
Hello we have three girls from Cambridge Poultry. I'm no expert but am very happy with my girls. They are fit healthy and of course wonderful. The lady was really helpful too and said any questions give me a call. Overall a positive happy experience and I'd go back but I wasn't looking for perfection
Chicken Licken
Barry and Primrose came from Cambridge Poultry and are both about 3 years old now. When I got them they had a good selection of chooks who seemed happy and healthy.
Lorax
Just thought I'd post an update to say how happy I've been with our chickens from The Hen House. Would thoroughly recommend and was super impressed with the conditions in which they were kept. Compared to lots of my friends' chickens they are very regular layers too! (Am sure this is coincidence, but still...)
