My cat is missing... Now reunited

Recommended Posts

My beautiful Max has been missing for nearly a fortnight now and I am beginning to give up hope.

We have gone round the neighbourhood calling him, but his miaow is wimpy at the best of times so unlikely we could hear him if he was locked in somewhere. We have done leaflet drops and posters, but the only reply was a text suggesting we check our wheelie bin (we don't have them in this area, still use bin bags). I have checked with the local vet and the RSPCA, even though he is chipped. I'm not sure what else to do.

I am so worried about him. I hate to admit it, but I have had a few cats in my lifetime and loved them all but he is my favourite by far. He has such a loving personality, retrieves balls, eats everything you put in front of him, loves having his belly rubbed and is pretty well behaved for a cat.

He did go missing for a few days when he was a young cat. We discovered he had been locked in a neighbour's house while they were away. Since then he has always been a bit of a roamer, but we've known he's been around because he always pops in from time to time and polishes off the catfood. I did consider buying a tracking device to find out where he goes, and now I'm kicking myself for not following through. My DH is convinced he has another home, but I am sure that he would still come to see me from time to time (unless my love is unrequited :boohoo: ) and that somebody would have seen him. DH may be right though - I hope so.

On the plus side, his sister is loving being an only cat! She never liked him!!!

So sorry to hear that - it sounds as if you've done everything you can. Don't give up hope, cats do go missing for quite a while and then turn up again - he sounds like a lovely chap. :( Perhaps he's been visiting someone over the summer, and now the weather has turned they are keeping the doors closed and he hasn't been outside? I would hate to think of someone taking in a cat which obviously isn't a stray, but it does happen. Fingers crossed for you.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that Max is missing....sending you lots and lots of hugs and keeping everything crossed that he will return soon.

Cathybc's point about cats sometimes missing for ages is right, I used to work with somebody whose cat went missing and it turned up 6 months later, through the cat flap, much thinner, but otherwise ok. They never did find out where it went.

Hope Max comes home soon x

Well last night I got a phone call from someone who had seen a cat answering to Max's description about two roads down from us near the woods. I rushed round and there he was. He is fine, has obviously been getting food from somewhere and seemed pleased to see me. I am keeping him in for a little while so he gets used to where home is and will be ordering a tracker. Unfortunately his sister is most unhappy, but I'm sure things will get back to normal soon.

Thanks for all your good wishes and positive thoughts.

Thanks. Max now has a collar with name tag (pink!), so "Ooops, word censored!"ody should mistake him for a stray. It's quite possible he's been eating another cat's food via a cat flap though - we often find one of our neighbour's cats in our kitchen - but we don't encourage her.

I will let you know how I get on with the tracker. My friend got one for her cats after two went missing in fairly quick succession. The first was an unhappy ending unfortunately (RTA we think), but the second reappeared after 10 days, very weak, so we think he had been locked in somewhere. She hasn't needed to try them out yet happily.
