This is the third year we've tried to grow them and the first female flower I've seen on any of our plants in that time. The trouble is it's rather late in ther year now! We put a make shift closhe around the plant in the hope of protecting it but are we deluding ourselves that we might get an edible squash now? Eggasperated Posted September 24, 2010 Share Posted September 24, 2010 I think even if you are in the warmest part of the country you would be very lucky if it grew to an edible size this late in the year - but if you don't need the ground for anything else its always worth a go. In my experience all of the squash family are always feast or famine - some years I don't know what to do with them all and others I'm lucky to get past the flower stage Good luck with yours. We have only got 3 from 3 plants this year and have taken them off even though they are not quite ripe because I was worried about the frost. All 3 were on the same plant. I planted loads of pumpkin and squash plants this year, I have had one pumpkin from one of the plants that is football sized and nothing from the others, except one plant that I bought early in the season and that has given me 42 fruits that are grapefruit sized Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
