scarlettohara
My Mum has bought me a mini sewing machine for my birthday, I was taught how to use one by my great aunt eons ago. I can hem, patch etc but would like to have a go at a chicken cushion cover or small quilt. Would the following need any work on the machine and as a novice would it be too hard ? http://www.pelennapatchworks.co.uk/chicken-coop-wallhanging-quilt-kit-13-x-15-443-p.asp Any other ideas of what I could make ? Christian
That is cute, shame it isn't bigger If you want to make a basic patchwork, just cut up squares, sew them together in strips, sew the strips together and you have the top. Sandwich wadding and backing to it, pin and then follow the line of the seems until you have sewn the entire thing together. The edging takes a little bit more practise, but google you tube for idea, as it is difficult to explain. I like sitting in my armchair and doing the edging, very relaxing. I made my first quilt this year and love it. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_mdwodzWeTi0/TBpub8Vj5zI/AAAAAAAABD8/9F47jM5p4Hw/s1600/QUILT2.JPG Am making one at the moment for my Mum's Christmas present. Good luck! When you have made one, it becomes addictive!
bigmommasally
I've got that wall hanging kit, I started it ages ago but have never finished it I'm sure someone else on here has done it as well. The background is pieced on the machine but I think most of the rest is done by hand. If you want to practice on the machine a charm pack would be a good start, you get a nice variety of fabrics which all tone together, they will all be accurately cut which will just mean you have to concentrate on getting your seams right. Have fun but be warned patchwork is extremely addictive

Plum
You could finish that pattern as a cushion or make it into a little wallhanging. Have fun. Love that quilt Grasshopper
