Peggy and her nest

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. Can anyone tell me why my chickens pick up bits of bark/grass/paper/soil from their run and sort of throw it behind them, back over their shoulders? Is this a type of nest building exercise? It seems to be associated with going onto the nest and laying an egg (ie it starts an hour or so before the egg appears). I am fairly new to chicken keeping, and have been watching in fascination as I have noticed two of my three (the two that are laying) doing this over the last few days. Any ideas?
