karlotta
As all my chicks/newbies from this year are now introduced with the rest of the girls, I have a and a both with runs totally empty... It's so very, very tempting to go and get something to fill them up. It's probably just as well I can't find any Modern Game bantams... or maybe I should seek out some more orps... or a lavender pekin or two. Somebody tell me I should wait till next year! Chicken shack
Perhaps you could set aside or excusivley for a 2 or 3 ex-battery hens. I have a very small garden and don't have the room for more. Go on
Dizzy-Deb
Ooh I know what you mean. My eglu is empty right now and supposed to be going on ebay this weekend. But keep looking at it thinking..... perhaps should get two more chickens now rather than next year! its so tempting
chicken bark
I'd keep one free for unexpected eventualities and get some to put in the other. Now is the time of year to introduce chickens as they are more docile in the cooler months.
karlotta
I'd keep one free for unexpected eventualities I do have a WIBrooder in the garage for a hospital wing (probably won't hatch with the incubator again if I can avoid it - much prefer using broodys) and also a spare ark... so probably don't even need to keep one spare for that... and get some to put in the other. Now is the time of year to introduce chickens as they are more docile in the cooler months. Now I LIKE that thinking!!! But you're all suppsed to be talking me out of it!!!! chicken bark
Sometimes I'm glad I don't have a spare coop - I can't have any more chickens now until I move my young girls in with the big girls. They all FR together now so that is the first step. Then I'm hoping one of them will go broody in the Spring and I'll have my first go at hatching some eggs. I bet the one that has gone broody 4 times this Summer won't bother next year. If you have the space then there will always be someone who will welcome any surplus eggs. It's no good I don't seem capable of talking you out of it - unless you sell either the or ?
karlotta
Couldn't possibly sell! What would I do for brooding in the spring?
Janty
I've just got three LF Orps and four more pekins. Go for it.
