I enjoyed it too, (I stayed awake throughout so it must have been good ) but it was much more fast paced than the book. I absolutely love the book and the sequel World Without End.

I must admit I hadnt heard of it but oh called me in at 9pm saying a film had just started.....really enjoyed it. Didnt realise til the end that it was a series so looking forward to next week.

I'm sure it'll be on channel four on demand, their version of iplayer. If baby hasnt emerged by tomorrow avo I'm going to watch it inbetween keeping an eye on DS.

Cor, not read the book, but may now after watching that! It had everything, rape, pillage, murder, battle scenes, double crossing and dastardly double double crossing - I'm hooked! Not terribly historically correct, though I feel!

I've read both books and they are absolutely brilliant. I was a little concerned when I heard it was being made for TV because condensing a 1088 page novel that spans decades into 6 two hour slots is a big ask. They are having to race through it but, from what I've seen so far (we recorded it and I've only seen half) it's sticking reasonably accurately to the book.

 

I always find it interesting how your imagination of how the characters look is sometimes blown wide apart. Sarah Parish as Regan Hamleigh is definitely way prettier than I think Ken Follett ever intended her to be! She's got the deviousness though.

 

Do read the books if you get a chance. I read World Without End first then Pillars and it didn't matter because both stand alone in their own right. They contain different characters and World is set a couple of centuries ahead.
