hilda-and-evadne
Wondered if anyone here could recommend a source of Colombian Blacktail hatching eggs, or of Blackrock hatching eggs, please? Also, could I ask: I've been reading up on the web about hatching and caring for chicks, and one thing I haven't worked out yet - when you take the mother hen out, are the chicks then able to survive outside in a run by themselves (except perhaps in the coldest weather) or do they have to go on living a bit longer indoors/under cover? Thank you.
Jools
Sorry to say that you're not likely to find hatching eggs as they are hybrids. Even if a cockerel snuck through the net, they'd most likely not breed true anyway so beware anyone who says they can supply eggs.
Chucky Mama
Sorry, can't help. I do have a vet friend though that hatched out some Columbian Blacktail chicks from a half dozen eggs from Waitrose about 6 years ago
The Dogmother
Sorry, can't help. I do have a vet friend though that hatched out some Columbian Blacktail chicks from a half dozen eggs from Waitrose about 6 years ago I was just abut to post the same thing when I read your post. As has been mentioned, they won't breed true though. Lovely birds; softest of plumage and a docile nature
Lewis
'Tis possible to get hybrid hatching eggs - not sure where from though! My friend in essex hatches them (from eggs from a friend) to keep and to sell on. Was tempted to get some whenI was hatching and ordered a couple but dates didn't work out so didn't in the end! Jools
The trouble with hatching shop eggs is that while you know the mum is Columbian Blacktail (well you hope she is), you have no idea what breed dad was. And even if he was a Columbian Blacktail, as a hybrid they wouldn't breed true so all you'd end up with is a mongrel - maybe a very pretty one but not necessary looking like a Columbian Blacktail.
