chickenlass
What wonderful people you all are to help with the rescue of these poor creatures. How does the rescue work...do you just collect as many chickens as you have homes bookded for or do you collect as many as you can? Will I be able to make a donation to the Battery hen welfare trust on the day I collect my three girls? I must say I'm not sure I will be able to "pick 3" as I will be wanting to give homes to all of them. I'm surprised they don't look as traumatised as I would have thought and are so keen to relax inthe sun and start being chickens for once! Bless you all
Guest
usually rescue as many as there are homes for - but sometimes a few extra! (sophie!!) you can make a donation on the day - it's up to you how much you offer for the hens - I think minimum 50p?? just to cover costs - but some people give more - for just the reason you ask. they do often look traumatised when they first arrive - but it is amazing how quickly they perk up - learn what grass is - and begin to demonstrate natural chicken behaviours for the very first time in their lives - these ones were sunbathing within half an hour of coming out of the crates - having never seen the sun before!! enjoy your new girls!! buffie
Hi Chicken lass I work for the BHWT and you can find out all you eed to know on our website www.bhwt.org.uk. It's great you are adopting There is alot of work going on behind the scenes to bring about a great rescue day. The hens are booked from the farmer and then allocated to coordinators for adoption. We have no trouble finding homes these days (thanks everyone and keep it up!) sometimes we just can't source enough. New farms are being contacted all the time and a relationship of trust built so that we can take some hens from them. You can certainly make a donation on the day and you can also go to the website and donate via paypal, sponsor a hen or get a rather lovely t shirt or Jute bag. When do you adopt chickenlass? chickenlass
Hi Buffie...I am down to adopt on the 19th/20th May in Lincolnshire.I live in York and I did wonder if the journey home\would be too much for the chickens but a lady called Lisa who was aswering Johns mesages as he busy said that they would be fine. Don't suppose you will be a the Lincoln one will you? edited to say that I already have my eye onthe T shirt and bag.. but with the expense of the Eglu this month as well I will have to wait a little for luxurys for myself...the girls have to come first for a while. Will definatley donate onthe day I am there.

Hellcat
Aw. I'm trying to convince OH to have couple of ex-bats when the cube arrives. Now we are down to 3 I need 5 to get up to my optimum number. I was going for a blue aracuna, red-gold aracuna and maran, and the children were going to choose 1 each, but I would love to home a couple of ex-bats. OH not keen though...
