Heard this on the Alan Titchmarsh show yesterday - made me cry - it is the last letter of a soldier killed in Afghanistan set to music

I haven't seen it yet, I don't dare. I would never have been able to do anything lovely with my son's letters home. They were full of swear words and tales of derring do, and he would always nag his younger brothers, making sure they were working hard, requests for socks and food and books. Nothing beautiful.

Think I'll have a stiff drink before I check that out!

My son hasn't got that far yet (he's still in basic training) but I can't imagine him writing anything so lovely.

An eloquent tribute to Tony Downes. I think their sacrifice sholn't go unnoticed and I hope this does really well and the money it makes goes to a good cause.

It makes me sad to view these modern letters alongside ones from WW1, the lads are the same, just the war is different. Although, it's the same fight.
