quickcluck
We spent a rainy afternoon making these!!! My mum came up with idea of lining a loo roll with news paper and then stuffing them tight with shredded paper, so now we've got to try them! Olly
Mmm, nice stove! They are similar to the ones I make with my 'green' log-maker, only mine don't use a loo-roll, just a rolled-up newspaper. They burn well but create a lot of ash, very good for starting things off, though. I don't use, and have never used, commercial firelighters. I just scrumple up a couple of sheets of paper, and criss-cross some kindling over the top.
Lesley
They look great! We use a log maker as well - keeps children quiet
quickcluck
I looked at the log makers, but never got round to getting one, and the wet brick shaped ones look too messy..... maybe it should go onto my list for santa!
Rhapsody
Anyone got any ideas for someone who doesnt take a newspaper? I hate using firelighters but all the alternatives seem to rely on the daily rag...
Daphne
Excess paper you get in the mail? Admittedly coloured shiny print isn't too wonderful but envelopes and matt junk mail do work. Also excess paper from a printer (at home or work or somebody else's work?)/anything you might normally shred? Brown paper bags? Feed sacks/potato sacks in bits? Boxes/carboard packaging pulled into bits? Freebie local papers/mags?
The Dogmother
I make something similar out of loo roll innards and shredded paper from work, or newspaper. I also tear up empty feed sacks and twist them tightly.
