Hemcore replacement advice please

Recommended Posts

I sometimes use Easibed - it's co"Ooops, word censored!"r (and cheaper) than Aubiose but it does the job. When I started keeping chickens again nearly 8 yrs ago, the only option I was aware of was dust extracted shavings, so if that's all you can get, then they're fine too. Aubiose is my first choice now though :)

We had supply issues with Hemcore a few months ago and I switched to Bliss - it is rape straw rather than hemp straw but otherwise quite good. It is a bit harsher than Hemcore but also a bit cheaper. I have gone back to Hemcore now the supply has been restored, but Bliss is a good alternative.

I use a horse bedding called elephant grass, which is made from the miscanthus plant. It lasts forever, doesn't go weird if it gets wet and their run doesn't smell at all. It's not at all fibrous so I'm really hoping they won't get muddy balls on their feet this winter. I like it.

I get it from Bearsden Pet Supplies which is in Surrey or Sussex, I don't know where you are.
