Stella14
We are 5 days into chicken ownership. I can't quite believe how much poo they produce. We poo pick whenever we see it, but so much of the time the back yard (they roam out of the run all day) looks like it's been carpet bombed! This though is a small price to pay. We just love them. Aren't they fantastic? How did we not know of the joys of chickens until now? As if we weren't having enough fun. This morning, our (aprox) 22 weeks old Barnevelder laid a beautiful dark brown egg. Firstly, we were given to expect that because she is a pure breed, she was unlikely to lay until next year! Secondly, from what I have read, due to the way in which Barnevelders have been bred over recent years, their eggs are often not dark brown these days! Anyway, we now have two eggs, including the one from the Rhode Rock yesterday. We feel like in the midst of our very urban life, we have a little farm. It's great Note to self - must stop gushing about the chickens!
