scarlettohara
At 5 am this morning I was woken (had been asleep for 1.5 hours ) by a continuous high pitched screeching - def not a fox and don't think an owl would keep going for that long and any caught rabbit would be long gone (plus live in surburbia). We have a resident owl but it really does terwit to woo sure it was some sort of bird as started at that time. Chooks are still locked up then and have no cockerals

sari
could be one of the smaller owls... such as the barn owl..although a funny time of night....have a look on the RSPB website, they have audio clips of birds, in the A-Z bird id-er...very useful! Herons screech too... These are all fox sounds..very useful for the chook owner... http://www.angelfire.com/ar2/thefoxden/sounds.html let me know what you think...... sari
I do still love my fox though, as I think that I am on their territory, not they on mine....I know that makes for an unpopular view on here....but I love seeing the cubs playing in the street. They set ou car alarm off every night for a week running over the roof of our car. Glad you've found out what it was though....I once spent an hour searching for a " kitten" in the churchyard opposite where I used to live.....when a visiting Nun told me it was baby squirrells, it sounded just like a kitten I swear
