chickenopolis
Sunday morning - bright and a biz breezy - I set about giving the Cube it's weekly clean. Took out the hay from the nestbox (our girls don't like straw and won't sit on it... ) and it was lined with shredded paper, but I noticed that the paper in the Cube from last week was wet. As the Cube is really surrounded by 2 walls I don't think it was rain that got in....OH nodded and said with great authority (!!)....."that's hen sweat!" Ooh, that's not a nice phrase! Anyway, my girls don't sweat...they gently glow.... Anyway, nest box cleaned out and replenished with paper and hay (and some camomile hay underneath - just to make it smell nice...), Yes I know, spoilt chooks... Back of the cub taken off, roosting bars and poo trays out and scrubbed clean, Flo decided to jump up into the Cube from the back and have a look round, being very vocal at the same time. She then went through the door of the Cube, jumped down, turned round and jumped up the stairs again, and stood there on the clean bars with her filthy feet and beak (been busy rootling in the leaves of our apple tree), giving me the OK that it was clean enough! She was then followed by Gloria who wanted to second that! I love cleaning helpers Does anyone else get regular helpers??
lillybettybabs
Yep, Lilly watches me and checks to see i have done it nicely, The other two couldn't give two bok boks!
docsquid
I love cleaning helpers Does anyone else get regular helpers?? Oh yes, lots of "help", usually with muddy feet, just like yours Even when I'm poo-picking they have to check I've done it properly. It is quite difficult to poo pick an Eglu classic when there are three large chooks investigating what you are doing.

Ooh, large chooks - I went to the National show at the weekend and know that the next breed I am going for are Buff Orpingtons, I'm not sure they would fit in an Eglu Classic, or a Cube to be honest, but I WANT SOME.... * strutts off in a huff until she gets her own way *
bouldercroft
My hens love it when I do the clean-out. They love to root about in the dirt under the poop tray - they vocally object to me re-assembling it...
bucklamp
Yes indeed. Our lot find the area under the tray extremely interesting. But then again they find the soap bubbles interesting too
txswanie
I have a helper called Ginger Rogers, a GR. She follows me around like Mary's little lamb most of the time but she seems especially interested in cleaning. If i'm lucky she waits till i've cleaned out the under tray area and then helps by getting it mucky again. If i'm not lucky she jumps in before I get the trays out and roots about in the poo. What a dirty look I get when I try to shoo her out. She then gets on the roof and looks lovingly into my face as if "what..me, I would never do anything so bad, I love you mummy". How can a person concentrate on cleaning with such a lovefest going on. I have to stop and we have a cuddle. The other 3 couldn't care less. " hey you, don't come in here without food" Today is cleaning day, perhaps i'll get it done in less than an hour... Colette
Lavenders_Blue
Yes, my nosey Rosie does this. She usually waits until I am trying to line the coop with newspaper and stands in the way or sometimes she hops up whilst I have the poo tray out and stands in the doorway looking confused as to where the floor has gone It's a bit irritating when you just want to get the job done (especially this time of year when it's so cold!) but I find it so funny that I don't really mind. I usually end up lifting her out and plonking her back outside (then closing the pop hole to prevent re entry )
meezers
Yep, I have a couple who like to help spread the shavings around,as fast as I put shavings on the coop floor, they kick them out the door. And Pepper likes to look through the poo trug to check she hasn't missed anything tasty
daxigirl
Paxo (who in theory is the only one who qualifies to use the nest box) likes to come and check on me when I'm having a daily tidy up. She likes to get in the box and chuckle at me as if to say don't forget that squishy poop there, can you believe the size of that one - it wasn't me, boy that smells, those bars need a wash. She also like the bedding to be fluffed trying the Bliss with eucalyptus quite nice really. You know I noticed it was a bit damp too, goodness sweaty hens whatever next. (A couple more eggs from certain people - you know who you are would be nice.)
