This is a confirmed scam. It is a postal scam which has been confirmed by Royal Mail. Cards are posted through your doors from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that recipients need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number).

 

“Do not call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize,” said a police spokesman.

 

“If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £315 for the phone call.”

I can confirm this too, as it was on Watchdog earlier on in the year.

It's out of date, and the cost of the call seems to have been inflated in the recent rounds of the email. There isn't a premium rate call that could cost that much so quickly.

It is doing the rounds again as my SIL got a note last week. There have also been several reports around London and Scotland. I know personally of another person in Hertfordshire that received one this week.

That one first went around in 2005, and circulates every year. I do some work for the local police, and got the same thing from them in a crime prevention email.

 

There are always a lot of similar things going around at this time of year, especially as people order loads of goods online.

I have had this one too, and the warning originated from Lancashire Police, so there must be something in it.
