Covering the coop

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My cockerel has learned to crow in the coop. (Cue me running up the garden in dressing gown and wellys hoping that If I let him out he'd start stuffing his face and hence shut up. It didn't work so I shut back in hoping th coop was muffling the noise somewhat) Anyway it's not too bad at this time of year but days start getting lighter again in less than a month.... So my question is what material do other people use to cover the coop to keep their boy's, or girls quiet until a reasonble hour? I'm thinking a cover would also provide some accoustic insulatation but I don't want something that will become water logged, or suffocate my chooks!

Suggestions please

For the first year, I covered Phillip's coop up religiously every night, then the neighbours told me they liked it- so I stopped. I thought that the covering of the coop delayed him waking up but this winter, he seems to be more affected by temperature. When it's very cold, he is about an hour later than when the weather is warmer ( normal time is 6.30 -6.45 ish and 7.30/7.45 when very cold). I guess like me, he doesn't like getting out of bed when it's cold!

Mind you, the other night he crowed at 3.45am - think the cat jumped on the cube and woke him up!
