Orakiah Hurt Her Leg

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Yesterday morning Orakiah hurt her leg.I'm not 100% sure how she did it but i think she might of slipped on a bit of ice that had collected on the perches(I've had alot of problems with the Eglu perches with the chooks hurting themselves on them). At first she didn't want to move (Not even for sweetcorn) but during the day she did come out of her eglu to see what the small birds were eating and tried to use her leg.

Anyway this morning she seems alot brighter and isn't limping/hopping as bad as she was yesterday. After my mum and sister come back from Llandudno we'll be having a better look at her foot/leg.

Is there anything i can do for her till Monday? (Our local vets won't treat her and we're moving to Llandudno on Saturday so we can take her to a vet we know there )

All that i've done for her is Take out the perches and fill up the poop tray with lots of Aubiose and put in a snugglesafe to help keep her warm.

I'm also just about to make her some Mashed Potato with Salmon and a bit of poultry spice and add about 1/4 tablet of Paracetamol (sp?) to help with any pain (Did pretty much the same when Lady Lay hurt herself on the perches)

Thanks Plum.

She was trying to walk on her bad leg yesterday (using her toes) but today she's only using the one leg!

My mum said if the vets is still open by the time we get to Llandudno tomorrow that we might be able to get her in then so i'm  we don't get there too late (My uncles will be driving slow as we've had lots of snow & Ice and they will be in lorries)

Thanks Plum.

We took her to the vets and he said that her leg was most likely badly sprained(sp?) and said to carry on what we were doing.(She was such a good girl, she didn't even try to peck him while he was messing with her leg)

She is now walking on her bad leg but still has a limp but is no where near as bad as when she first started walking on it!

If she is still limping after Christmas we will be taking her to the vets again.
