beach chick
last night's blizzards were too much. I've only got clear tarps on 2 sides of my WIR at the moment, which were the 2 most exposed sides in the recent rainstorms. since then weather has been so bad that we havent got round to fitting the other 2 sides, and I need DH to replace the 2 I did as an emergency measure. so went out this morning, and the swirly whirly snow has come in on all sides, making a lovely mix of snow and aubiose. goodness knows how I will dry it out - I think I'll have to wait for some kind of thaw, get the new sides on, and then replace it all. in the meantime, it's not ideal, but I suppose it is better than last winter, when we didnt have the WIR and they spent the cold days in a polytunnel made from an eglu run and some plastic sheets. alet_chicken
Same problem here. I've got a change of bedding in the shed, am just waiting for the worst of the snow to be over before changing the whole lot. It was -11 when I went out to open their door this morning. The bedmax was disturbingly crunchy underfoot.
beach chick
oh I'm so glad it's not just me!! I was feeling dreadful, and worrying about damp aubiose etc, but I really dont see what else can be done at the moment....
Heidi-Hi
I had the same. The whole run was pure white. It was so funny though, I opened their door, and as normal I could hear them s"Ooops, word censored!" re who gets to go out first. So Wallie stuck her head out first but stopped dead in her tracks. She refused to come down - she did not trust the snow one bit! But then of course the eight behind her couldn't see why she stopped so they just shoved her from behind, as to say 'get on with it!' She made so much noise, it was quite funny, if you ever tried imagining a chicken on tippie toes Needless to say, I had to go and get the rake and unearth their propper WIR floor (nice and brown) before they all came down. Deary me...
