blot4
We're going away for at least a week over Christmas and a friend has agreed to look after the chickens. Given how cold it has been (although I'm in the South of England where temps haven't been quite so extreme), do I need to get her to shut them into the Eglu every night? I will probably have to take them round to her if that is the case - I wonder what her spaniel will make of them? Blot
Egluntyne
I wouldn't say so. I never close mine in, even in the recent arctic weather, and they were fine. Some advice about winter care **here**
Laura & CTB
I'm in the south east too and always go away for a few days at Christmas -the girls are fine with the door open, I've never returned to find them frozen to the roosting bars. Olly
And another one here - both re living in the South East, and not closing the door. I don't close the Eglu door unless it's extremely cold, I didn't do it all in the recent snow, and they've been fine.
Plum
Sorry but I would, you never know when a fox is going to arrive and could reach through the run or send them into a panic if they are out in the run overnight. You can always repay the favour sometime.
blot4
Thanks for all the advice. I've found a lovely neighbour to shut them in every night. With it getting to -10 I thought it wise. They really are not keen on snow either! Sorry for delayed acknowledgement too - been away from my computer!
