Redwing
Thats a lot of money to shell out for some chicks Even worse that there are no pics of the other two chicks on offer and most importantly none of the parent birds!

madchickenlady
Hmmm. Someone's trying to cash in on the 'chocolate' craze
Redwing
Am I being stupid, but could you land up with three boys ??? You could do in theory but an experienced Pekin breeder can sex Pekins easily by 10 days so if they know their stuff you'd be fine

chris_21
well many eggs are sold on ebay so people pay what ever they want for them,. The going rate for chocolate orpingtons at day old are £20 6-8 weeks old are £40 and at p.o.l £75 roosters are £75 and people pay it. Gold laced orpingtons bantams are the same as the chocolate orpingtons
Redwing
wow they are exspensive i have seen chocolate orpingtons at 14 weeks old for £150 a trio and £90 for 6 eggs and gold laced orpingtons at £220 for 6 eggs Really?! How come they charge so much? Are these rare breeds?! Sorry I'm new to chicken keeping The chocolate gene is quite rare, the brds themselves are not rare its just the colour The Market for Chocolate Orpingtons the past two years has been very good but the bottom fell out of the market over the summer, some people struggle to acheive £15 a female now and males are being given away, people are now wanting choc Pekins as the next big thing - that bubble will also burst in time Chocolate in pekins has taken a few years to get the type right and many arent that great still, some of the best in the country were stolen sadly I have a chocolate hen, she is lovely and cost me £7.50 - at the end of the day she is just a brown chicken! You dont need to pay silly money for choc birds, some of the best breeders in the country sell cheap choc Orps and Pekins come in lots of other nice colours so if you are tempted then wait for the price to come down before you buy. This sort of hype isnt new - in Victorian times people paid weeks wages for one Cochin when they first appeared in England!
chris_21
well it's all swing and roundabouts as people are still paying well over £40 for 6 eggs for chocolate orpingtons bantams. plus it's all about the bloodlines in the chickens. my gold laced orpingtons have the dutch and the a2 bloodline which makes them the best gold laced orpingtons you can get . craftyhunnypie
I'd still like some choccies - just as a change to buffs. I also like the jubilees - infact all Orpingtons are lovely. Emma.x
madchickenlady
I would probably be tempted by a choc pekin, but I wouldn't pay silly money for one. Here's hoping one of my contacts decides to breed them
