On the Basingstoke web site it states that you will need to finish in 3 hours and 15 minutes. This is reassuring to a blobby like me who is now overwhelmed with admiration for ANH!

Sparkysmum - I haven't looked for you as I don't know your surname. Vicki - I have had a look for you but, unless you have changed your name to Lindsay I can't find you either!

 

Maybe we will have to just keep encouraging each other on here.

 

I did Boot Camp last night for the first time since before Christmas. I can barely walk today which doesn't bode well! Also, I had to drive from here to Alton this evening to pick DS up from climbing. It is 13 miles and seems an awful long way!!

Well after an ice - free afternoon I went out for a run about & hey..............the temps had plummeted and the roads were like ice What a frustrating day.

I set up a training programme but it had disappeared the next time I logged in . The beginner's one seems a bit odd to me, you don't run for more than 30 minutes - ever . Surely you'd have to run at least the distance you're planning to do .

 

I chickened out today . Hopefully it won't be icy tomorrow and I can go for my first run .

Go for it guys The Runners World training programmes are really good. I used one when |I did the Brighton Marathon last year. I had never run further than 7 miles before (and even then only twice). If I can do it anyone can (I didn't loose any weight though )

OH uses a GPS thingummy but he suggested Map My Run which I'm in the process of setting up. It seems to be linked to Facebook (if you want it to!)

Map my Run is good - I have found a couple of good routes with this & you can also find routes that others have logged.Will you train with your OH

I can't get Map My Run to find any routes - keeps saying can't connect to server or something .

 

I've had a look at the RW one but I'm really put off by all the fartlek/interval training . I just used to go running a few times a week at a steady pace, varying the distances.

 

Alli, my OH does a marathon in just over 3 hours so, no, I won't be training with him . All of my boys are runners and go up and down mountains like goats .

 

ChuckyMama, I'm in awe of you doing a marathon . I don't think I'll ever do that distance .

OK - it starts. 5k at a very slow pace (about 35 minutes! ) but it's a start....(I am cream crackered now though!)

Still not been for a run (icy pavements ) but I did buy a pair of new running trainers today (£80 ) so I'm wearing them as I type (got to make sure they fit ).

 

I'm now thinking I'm going to cram in as many fitness classes as I can while the weather's bad then the running can start when the pavements are safe .

I know how you feel. I went for a run with my 12 year old who chatted all the way round - I was struggling to breathe. So, I tried with DD who said 'Mum, I have never run so slowly in my life, can't you go a bit faster?' My OH is much quicker that me and we did train a bit together but he would start and warm up with me and then go off and meet up with me later. I was bought a Garmin Forerunner 405 (GPS training watch) and you can download a training schedule to the watch and it measures exactly how far and fast you are going. I found it to be a great training partner as it measured my progress.

Well I'm afraid more snow and now thick ice has scuppered my plans. Might have to use the gym although the very thought of it makes me ill. Why can't this awful weather just go

Inch of snow and still falling . Might not even get the car out for my classes tomorrow at this rate .

 

Bit nervous about the trainers as they're a size 7 and I've never taken more than a size 6 . The shop is really good though and the staff are well trained in fitting so fingers (and toes!) crossed they're OK.

Don't worry, my running shoes are a 6 and a half & my usual shoe size is 5 - 5 and a half. What did you get? Sweatshop are having a really good sale just now so if your trainers fit well & are comfy, you might be able to pick up a discounted pair from Sweatshop.

 

Hope the snow will clear soon, then we can actually do some running Oh and was that a pig I saw flying Alli xx

I got these (not a brand I've heard of the but the woman in the shop said they're very good). I wanted hybrid shoes for road and off-road as there are good off-road runs near me which I can do and walk Riley at the same time.
