Ain't Nobody Here
I've not had an email saying I wasn't successful and they're emailing people up till the 15th .... .
sparkysmum
Vicki, the Great North Run main ballot is now open see here http://www.greatrun.org/events/event.aspx?id=1 Fingers crossed again.
Ain't Nobody Here
I think if you're unsuccessful in the Mirror ballot you get entered into the ordinary ballot. Or should I enter both just in case! (Is there a chance I'll get both and have to pay for both though ?)
Ain't Nobody Here
Unfortunately your Daily Mirror ballot application for the 2011 Bupa Great North Run has been unsuccessful. We have arranged for your application to be transferred into the general ballot, which will be drawn the week commencing 7th February 2011. You will then be informed whether you have been successful or not.
Couperwife
oh no fingers crossed for the next draw though (we must have a G N R omlet meet - that would be fab) cathy x
sparkysmum
Oh no, ANH, I am so sorry. However I am doing lots of positive thinking & hope, hope hope that you get a main ballot place. If all else fails would you consider a charity place. I don't think you have to raise toooooo much. Cathy, we'll def have a G N R omlet meet, it would be unthinkable not to. We've got months to decide, I'm so happy to be doing the event with another omleteer
jlo
ANH - you will simply have to come down South for the 2nd October and do the Basingstoke one with me - assuming that my back improves to let me start training!
Couperwife
the Great Edinburgh Run is on 2nd October...

Ain't Nobody Here
I have just been for my first training run . 20 mins as instructed, 2.27 miles (according to OH's GPS thingy ). My hip flexors are aching and I'm beetroot in the face but it's a start . Off to do my zumba and step classes now so just call me Mrs Fitness . I thought I might start a new thread for recording training runs (to shame myself into keeping it up!) - anybody else care to join me?
jlo
That would be good - it may shame me into keeping up with the training! Pleased you got in ANH!

Chucky Mama
Good Luck all Here are some of my top training tips. Follow a training plan Runners world have some great plans. If you can borrow or afford a Garmin Forefunner (GPS running watch) you can download a whole half marathon programme. Just put in your race date and the watch will tell you each day what you should be doing including speed, mileage etc. You can then review your run on your computer. The newer models give you a virtual running partner who you have to keep up with (make sure your model is compatible with the runners world programmes if you buy one - all the newer ones are fine) Keep Hydrated Fatigue during running is often down to being dehydrated. Your urine should be virtually colourless if you have got it right. If you get gut pain when running it will confirm that you are dehydrated. Stretch before and after training This will reduce the possibility of you having to pull out due to injury. Pay special attention to stretching your ITB band which is one of the causes of what people think is sore knees. There are some good ITB stretches shown on youtube. Take supplements on long runs Take something like Poweraid on long runs - I didn't like the taste of these type of drinks and so watered them down 50/50. I also ate Jelly Belly Sports Beans. Use Poweglide Great stuff that is better than vaseline and stops chaffing When the going gets tough I used to say 'I am a marathon runner' - dog thought I was potty but when I was struggling on a run I used to shout it. Research has also found that swearing helps (you need to be running up quiet country lanes for this one though ) Enjoy Good luck all, really looking forward to following your progress
Ain't Nobody Here
Thanks for that, CM . I do wonder how on earth I managed to do 5 half marathons just by going out and running randomly . This time though, I'll take some advice . jlo, if it makes you feel better, I had to cancel my step class this morning as I'm having trouble walking after my 2.37 mile run . jlo
Some good advce there CM - thanks. I am trying to concentrate on the distance rather than any speed. OH has a heart rate monitor (which needs new batteries but did work in the past!) My heart rate would be alarmingly fast whilst I was running - I am talking 170- 180 bpm. I used to recover reasonably quickly but was still a bit concerned that I had such a high heart rate. I am therefore convinced that my body is not actually made for running so that there is no point in trying to do a superfast speed - I will just go at a ploddy pace and keep the heart going! Hope your legs feel better soon ANH! (although tomorrow is likely to be bad in my experience!)
Dizzy-Deb
I have just this week got a place in the London marathon... It was a last min thing, one of the charities contacted me to see if wanted to do, as had a lady drop out. Me being me said...yes. Most I have ever done is a 9.2 slow plod so got to pull my finger out and increase distance and stamina. Also have to try raise sponsorship money too, which think am going to find hardest. Wish me luck and if you want to sponsor me please feel free. . I think am having my mid life crisis and need to prove something.
