Mercedes55
I've had 3 eggs this week from our Salmon Favorelle and today when I went in to give them their corn I checked in the nest and there was little blue egg, it's so exciting, I've never seen one this colour before
squidsin
I'm so jealous. My pekins haven't laid a single egg since October! (And they are enormous! It's probably all feathers, but they're certainly not the tiny little birdies they were when I got them in April. Do hens grow a thick winter coat?) Mercedes55
I haven't kept hens long enough to know if they grow a thicker coat in Winter Both our Salmon Favorelle and Cream Legbar are quite big, more so the Salmon Favorelle, she is huge. Our Welsummer is also quite big, but as in long from head to tail and tall rather than stocky, but our Araucana is quite small, she is smaller than our ex batts

bouldercroft
what are these strange objects you speak of??? can you tell my patience is wearing thin....I love my girls but...just one little egg would make me so happy...
Mercedes55
We hadn't got to the stage of being impatient as we had been told they wouldn't lay till the Spring. They have all been eating lots of porridge and corn with the weather being so cold, which we had assumed would definitely not encourage laying as they weren't eating much of their pellets, so it was such a wonderful surprise to get 2 of the new girls laying this week
Angie
Oh wow , Well done . i have had one egg a day since the weekend but i can't wait to get a little blue one. Sassi is so good she is also fairly quite whilst laying. It is the other two that run in the coop to see what she has been up to and start congratulating her who are the noisy one. She lays in the nest box too, amazing how they know where to go isn't it?

They must be quite intelligent to go back to the nest and not just lay them randomly in the run
