Chickpea
My welsummer x Tansy is all hunched up and unlike herself, I examined her today, and her crop was empty and she felt very thin, comb not very red, I know she does get bullied by another hen especially around the food & water feeders, but could that be the only cause? We've only had these hens for the past 2 months or so, don't know what to do! There are yellow droppings around but can't be sure these are hers & non of them are laying yet, though they aren't young birds! Help! Plum
Maybe not getting enough food or water poor girl. First I'd check the house for redmite and her for parasites. A general health check may show up something viewtopic.php?f=41&t=63422 . Then worming with flubenvet and a trip to the vet if no improvement
Olly
If her crop is empty in the morning, that's not unusual - if it's empty at night, then she is not eating enough. It is very hard to diagnose chicken illnesses because they conceal them so well, but if she's looking hunched up then she doesn't sound quite right. Does she run for treats, and is she generally bobbing up and down and looking active and busy, or is she standing on her own and not moving much? It might be worth worming them anyway, but if she's still looking glum and you can't see any obvious cause, a trip to the vet may be in order. Chickpea
Thanks for the replies, but we found her dead this morning, so whatever it was at least it was quick. Such a shame she was such a fine looking hen, was only yesterday she began to look poorly
