Advice on sweetcorn

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I had 12 beautiful sweetcorn seedlings growing in root trainers, but the bl***y crows have pulled them all up! I have tried to grow more inside but they won't grow! I have used a couple of different types with each sowing, so its not the seeds that are dodgy. Does anyone have a full proof way for growing sweetcorn??

I have planted 12 seeds directly into the ground, but after 2 weeks no sign yet. Any ideas?

Thanks

I started mine off in the greenhouse and then planted them out once they looked big enough. I've put a plastic bottle cloche around each one which seems to be putting off the birds. I also have cds strung up, a scarecrow and clanking bells made from a tin can, a nail and some string.

Of course, this morning i've been chasing away the damn pigeons who aren't in the least bit frightened by the bird scarers

Good luck

I have some seedlings growing in the conservatory I just used small pots and potting compost nothing special, the shoots appeared after about 2 weeks, I think they have to be quite warm to germinate but I have grown them before and never had any problems.

I had no luck at all with my sweetcorn seeds in the greenhouse but Dan bought our 8 year old a packet of childrens seeds and they had tomatoes, sweetcorn, lettuce etc and her sweetcorn plants are about 6inches tall now, and are in her section of the raised beds, you can have some of those if you want
