As the title says really! My girls are about 20 weeks old now and no eggs Is it too cold for them to lay or are they still too young?

Probably still a bit young . Look out for signs like growing/reddening combs & wattles and crouching when you approach them.

Hybrids lay from about 22 weeks but you have pure breeds which can take much longer - The Orpington will probably be the last to lay and they can be 40+ weeks before that happens

 

As the weather warms in spring though you may get some luck

Ah ok...very much looking forward to the first egg (The oprington is my favourite -she's quite inquisitive and loves her food so she comes to me to see what grub I've got her )

Wait for the days to get a little longer, I'm sure you will get egg in the next few weeks, very exciting when you do!

My hybrids just started to lay last week and they are around 30w - one of the RIRs laid today for the first time she is 28w old.

 

It's just the best moment when you find that first egg.

only one accurate answer really .. when they are ready.. after all they are female... and from my experience they are never to be rushed no matter what species
