percy049
we are plannig to get a chicken from 2 different places next week. it will take about 45 minutes to get from the first place to the 2nd place, then 10 minutes to get home. should we put them in seperate boxes or put them in one box together on the way home so they start getting to know one another? Hope this makes sense
Chortle Chook
It does make sense. Recently when I went to get my two Frizzles I got one from a place about 10 mins away from the other. I was going to put them both in the same box but the lady I got the 2nd Frizzle from said I should use separate boxes, which I did. One Frizzle was much larger than the other so perhaps that is why. When I got home it was dark and I put them both in a little house together and they have been firm friends ever since. If you have a chance to sit in the back with your new chooks, I'd be inclined to put them in the one box but to have another box spare just in case. JPalmer
I recently had the same situation recently and I put them together and we drove for about 1 hour and I also did have another box just in case but they really seem to bond and I think it was due to the stress of the situation and they become firm friends immediately. Mine were the same breed but completely different sizes, one was real small the other was just about double in size. So not sure but my original ones really bonded after being driven in a box in the car and I might be talking nonsense but I think the stress does help to bond them

The Dogmother
I wouldn't worry too much, they will be quiet and go into 'roost mode' in the box so they'll be fine. Just make sure it has plenty of air holes and doesn't get hot.
