Problem with letting agents and landlord advice needed.

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any advice?

We were supposed to be moving into our new rental property yesterday. When we viewed over a month ago, there was work that needed doing. A boiler needed to be fitted, all pipe work in, sockets put on etc. We were promised this would all be done. We met the agent at the property again on Saturday and noted that not a lot had been done. Again we were promised it would be finished for yesterday.

Roll onto 9-15pm Wednesday and hubby gets a call from the agent. He is sorry but we can't move in on Thursday morning as planned. First, he says it maybe Saturday and then possibly yesterday pm or today. DH phoned him yesterday morning and he said the problem is to do with an electric meter which is hanging out the front of the house and also is in one of the bedrooms. The lanlords contractors can't do anything with it without permission from the leccy bods. Surely, they would have known about this months ago.

We are now being fobbed off left, right and centre by the agent. This also costing us quite considerably. DH has taken holiday from work and hired a van. We also had other people that were going to help us. We have set up insurance on the new property etc etc. We would pull out but, we have given notice here and don't think we could find somewhere, get refrence checks etc etc by the time our notice runs out at the end of the month. We have also paid a non returnable fee of nearly £200 for checks and admin that we can't afford to lose. Also as it is DH who will be paying the rent the agents will not deal with me. Actually, this might be for the best, as i would have torn a few strips of him at the very least by now.

Does anyone know what compensation we should expect or if there is more we could do etc.
