Melton market pure breed auction 26th march is there anyone going it supposed to be really good so i have been told by lots of other chicken lovers its the main fur and feather event of the year. And you can buy lovely melton maret pork pies and they also have lots of other stuff on sale on the market its a good day out i have been lots of times to the normal fur and feather you can pick some bargains up.

I've heard it's quite good - though have not been to the graded one.

 

The 'fur and feather' auction on a Tuesday is interesting and a good place to people watch, but you need to bid with an experienced eye or you can end up with poorly/aged/wrong sex birds. Having said that, a friend bid on (and won) a broody hen with 12 Araucana chicks a couple of years ago and I bought 2 of the chicks when we knew they were hens. They're lovely birds who lay beautiful blue eggs. I also bid on some fertilised 'bantam' cuckoo Marans eggs last year and hatched 3 hens and one cockerel - all bantam cuckoo Marans. The boy found a home at a neighbouring farm and the 3 girls lay lovely brown eggs - so Melton Market can be a great place to buy, provided you're cautious and buy with care.

just come back from melton market it was a good day lots of chickens!! and ducks geese pheasants peacocks etc etc

I was going to go, but my YD has got subacute appendicitis ( grumbling appendix by any other name) so my brain has been fried all week...she wasn't up to the Market...
