To scrub your roosting bars? Mine seem to be covered in White crusty bits that no amount of scrubbing will move it. Do I need a stiffer brush? Jiff with scouring action?

I use a dish washer brush and elbow grease, the end of the brush to chisel off the stubborn bits. Sorry I don't have any magic solutions, apart from those awful chicken nappies on another post recently!

I find that the hard or white bits come off easier with a bit of a soak - I leave them overnight in a grow bag tray and then it's scrubs off easily. And yes I have a spare set of cube bars - so the girls have a quite clean set every week (with a regular scrub/s"Ooops, word censored!"e) and a really sparkly set every 3 weeks. (i rotate who gets the soaked set each week!)

Oh now there's a really good idea. I've often thought about soaking them but never thought of a growbag tray! Think I'll order a new set of roosting bars now . . Many thanks!

I got a spare set in the 12 days of Xmas sale, and I too rotate, great if the hose pipe is frozen or it's raining when I do my weekly clean - speeds things up nicely.

A loo brush is quite good for the scrubbing as it fits between the bars perfect and is quite stiff bristled for those more stubborn poops. A soak in the rain helps no end.

I use one of those saucepan scourers, after soaking in a bucket. I also have a spare set.

I leave my spare set out in the rain too.

 

I just sold one of my Eglus & put an already scrubbed set through the dishwasher ...they came up like new!

The DW needed the filters cleaning anyhow,so I figured I would bung them in before I did that
