Omlet Eglu Auto Door and Light

Hi all,

 

Last week had a full week of lush eggs, this week, from last sunday not a single one? anybody got any ideas why? i have given a little bit of garlic in the water and poultry ACV etc but still nothing. I find it strange tho its all 7 not laying....

Have they been wormed?

Maybe you have an egg eater or two?

Could they have found an alternative place to lay? You never know you might find them under a bush somewhere.

hmmm... i think i need to investigate the garden! no doubt the girls will follow me (like the pied piper!)..probably knowing exactly what im looking for!

 

I will worm them again today just to be doubly sure, is it likely that hens that have laid in the eglu for a year will start laying elsewhere? ive never heard of that, although they do have a fav spot at the top of the garden where they all faff around together for most of they day.. i will check there first i think!

Has there been any change in diet, quantity of treats of length of time free ranging?

Hi, no not really, we let them free range as much as possible! i will worm and flea again next week, but no change in their diet either and no eggs today?.... they havent stopped laying over the winter but for all 7 to stop laying at the same time, i think thats a bit dodgy and generally they are super layers. I cleaned the coop about yesterday, gave it a huge clean to make them feel happier! lol Anything else it could be? do hens sometimes have break? xxx

have had a white egg this morning could not believe it!!

does this mean it was just a blip? i have wormed and flead them again today, hopefully will make a difference? does the amount of food they eat effect eggs? xx

Yes - fat hens don't lay, and if they are free-ranging all the time they are probably getting enough to eat but maybe not getting all the nutrients that are in their pellets. I'd be inclined to restrict free ranging a bit, so they eat more pellets and are in the run during laying time.

All through the bad weather I was getting 3-5 eggs a day but now the weather has got better I'm down to 1 or 2. Going back to basics no treats till after 4.30 and max of 2 hours a day free ranging.

hi, thanks everyone, you have been very useful, i am going to check now if there are any eggs, our hens are pretty spoiled, freerange whenever and get treats etc, i think limiting them is a fantastic idea xxx
