mains water descaler

Recommended Posts

We have horrendous hard water. I have put up with it for years and descale things when necessary. It has however really damaged my shower screen. It won't come off with anything. I have accepted that, but I am about to get a new shower fitted in my main bathroom and a new cubicle. This is very pricey and so I really want to keep it looking good. I know there are sprays you can coat the screen with, but am wondering if nows the time to fit some thing to my water system. I don't really want to go down the line of adding salts to the system, but have come across little electronic boxes that fit to the mains pipe and claims to reduce limescale currently in the system and reduces the amount coming in to the house.

Does any one have any experience. They are about £200 which in the scheme of things (the shower if much more than this) isn't too bad, but if they don't work I will really begrudge the amount. Obviously the testimonials on the sites are glowing!!

Thanks

My builders fitted a couple of those boxes to my system at the surgery and I must say that I found no difference. I used to live in the Thames Valley where water is very hard.

Modern water softeners deliver water that you can drink....though I wouldn't. I'm sure that would work.

I would leave the electronic deionisers alone if it were me. Just my opinion though.

Just to echo OSH's comment really...we had one of these in our old house (our water is straight from the chalk downs)...I honestly can't say it made any difference. If you find anything that really shifts limescale off shower screens without etching the glass let me know...I'm guessing only a proper water softener will do the trick here
