New cube and hens

Recommended Posts

Well we purchased a new cube last monday and my wife and me spent a couple of hours putting it together. we found the instructions realy easy to follow including getting the rubber bracket cover on correctly! I have now made a permanant area for it and have edged the bark area with standard plastic lawn edging which is a neat way to contain the bark. Today I went to collect the hens, 2 gingernut rangers and 2 Miss Pepperpot from Hens2Go. They were very quiet on the trip back home maybe because I dropped in a handfull of corn to keep them happy.

Once home they were introduced to their new home, and to my suprise were drinking and eating almost straight away. I use the omlet organic chicken feed and they seemed to instantly like it. They had a good look around and seemed very relaxed in their new home.

As it was quite late when we left them to go to the shops I put a small camping torch light in the cube to show them the house and when we got back a little later it was getting dark. We found all 4 of them snuggled up in the cube house all ready for bed. Door closed and a little check through the roof and a little stroke to hopefully get them used to being handled and they are safe for the night. So far so good. We are looking forward our first eggs but as they are young birds this may be a while yet. We need to name them now and look forward to many happy days with them in the garden in the coming summer. My 18yr old son only justy got the "Omlet" joke that the cube is called an "Omlet "cube! His girlfriend asked me when I said we need to name them if they were boys or girls! Now where do we get eggs from again?

so far we have been very impressed with Omlet, the Omlet cube and Hens2Go and recomend them to all.

Welcome, and the cube is a good choice. I started with a cube and the same chickens as you just a couple of weeks ago...And last week I introduced 2 cream crested legbars in as well. Have fun with your chickens, you'll enjoy trying to work out which of them is closest to laying and providing you with the highly symbolic first egg! Symbolic of what, you ask? Symbolic of a good breakfast, probably :D
