braden01
..we got our first eggs a couple of days ago but nothing since but there has definitely been a change in the chucks' poos - they really seem much smellier. I know it sounds obvious that poo will smell but it is suddenly v v pungent whereas before it was quite mild. Has anyone else found this or is it a sign of something amiss? Also, I remember something about garlic powder helping reduce the smell -is this the garlic powder sold with herbs & spices or is it a specialist animal product? Do I just mix it into layers mix? Chooks Aloud
I get our garlic from the pet suppliers where we get the aubiouse. It comes in a great big tub (they give it to horses) and it works a treat. I put a teaspoonful in when I mix their tea in the afternoon and they gobblie it up. I don't put in with their pellets anymore as it seemed to just work its way to the bottom of the grub, mixing it in with their tea ensures it all gets eaten. braden01
mixing it in with their tea ensures it all gets eaten. I'm intrigued - what do your chucks get for tea? I'm assuming cucumber sandwiches and iced buns..
helenp
Hi, I've put a clove of fresh garlic in the girls water. So far as good, none of the girls have eaten the clove and the poo is ok
Snowy
How do you do the clove of garlic in the water? I put one in which floated and Pom just picked it out and threw it away!
Egluntyne
Bokashi Bran is supposed to stop smelly poos. .........look here....
Kathy C
We got dried Chinese garlic granules from our local feed store (much to the surprise of the owner, who said she had learnt a new one!). Despite her scepticism it seems to help. We add 5 or so to their glug each time, they seem to sink ok. When we first added it I put in too much and Peri backed away from the glug in disgust, so I am still tweaking the amounts.
Sarah71
Mixing it in with a treat/tea sounds a good idea, would it be ok with porridge do you think, I give it them for breakfast
helenp
I just popped the clove in & it kind of sank, the girls have shown no interest in it at all, and apart from the odd orange poop all is fine.. May get some powder and add it to the pellets if they suddenly show an interest in the clove.
