daxigirl
Hi Chicken Fans I've just set 22 eggs in the incubator (it's a digital auto turn) reading lots of stuff it says that the humidity should be 50ish, mine is achieving 47ish, I put 100ml of water in the water trough when I set it up and the little vent slot is shut. The incubator is in the spare room. What should I do to make it rise or am I worrying to much? Should I put a dish of water in the room so the room humidity rises? Any advice greatly recieved. scarlettohara
I ran my incubator dry (followed Redwings advice) it sat at 30 until day 18 then I added water and it stayed at 50 throughout hatch - I had a 100% hatch rate
Redwing
The eggs need some air so the vent slot needs to be at least a third open if not more I wouldnt worry too much about humidity until day 18, too much is worse than not enough, I never add water before day 18 now Open the vent wide and let the humidity settle at whatever level, once that water has gone I wouldnt add more but if you do then add just a little to get the humidity up to no more than 40 At day 18 fill the resevoirs and close the vent about half way. If (like now) you cant get the humidity above the 40's then add some rolled or folded damp kitchen roll to the edges of the tray
daxigirl
Big, big thank you. Why don't the books explain it like that? I'm so excited, I keep going and looking at them all lined up nicely doing their thing. Can't wait for them to hatch and see what colours they'll be. Hopefully by choosing breeds to hatch that I don't want apart from a white or exchequer leghorn I won't be enticed to keep them (yeah right). scarlettohara
Good Luck, glad Tasha explained I only have a little incy with no moveable air vent If you keep them that's a big jump from the girls you have now
Mollie333
I'm hatching white leghorns! Goodluck!
daxigirl
My leghorns are exchequer and then a mixed colour batch, so keeping my fingers crossed for at least a mainly white one. (Swop you one if not Mollie???) Incubator now at 30ish on the humidity so next stop 1st candling.
