Weed killer recommendations please!

Recommended Posts

My allotment was sadly neglected last year and it needs some serious weeding now. The beds aren't too bad, easy enough to weed, but some of the paths never got lined and mulched and have become overgrown with couch grass again. My allotment is the last organic one in the row so I have been given permission to be non organic if I wish. I do want to stay as organic as possible, so is there anything that I could use to zap the couch and path weeds to give me a bit of a head start on it? I've been down today and had a bonfire so it's looking better already, but if I don't get this couch under control now, I will never do it!

the only organic way to deal with couch grass if you don't want to use roundup is a fork but we had a plot holder that grew organicly but used roundup on the paths

I dug one of my beds this weekend that I've not dug or about 18 months I've know got about 2 barrow loads of couch grass roots and I've still got the path thats coming out to dig up

Initially I did control it by digging SJP, but due to ill health and more recently an op, the digging fell by the wayside! It will be a few more weeks yet before I can go back to digging, but if I don't stomp on the weeds now they will race away leaving me even further behind! Hopefully I will only need to use the round up this year, then I can go back to the natural way :D Thanks for the advice - trip to the garden centre for me tomorrow 8)

I garden organically but have used Roundup on all pathways and the long gravel drive - I'd never hand weed all that!

I have a flame thrower this year though - I used to have the smaller weed wand but need something bigger. I'm going to see how much I can control on the pathways using that.
