Chucky Mama
Phew, Trudie my best layer (and fav chook ) has been laying extremely thin shelled egg or softies. On Sunday she was quite low and took 8 hours or so to pass a softie So, I have been giving her soaked layers pellets with a drop of Zolcal D (calcium and vitamin D) in to up her pellet intake and Lifeguard in water (general tonic & glucosamine). She has layed 2 perfect eggs in the last 2 days - long may it continue. She is obviously very pleased with herself as did the biggest egg announcement today followed by the 'throwing straw over her back' dance

Lavenders_Blue
Awwww, I bet she feels better now. 8 hours to pass a softie must have been really miserable for her My ex batts are all now in their 3rd laying season. Three of them lay perfect eggs, but one girl lays very very thin shelled eggs. I have to be really careful when handling them as the shells 'give'! I add Davinova C to the drinking water and it's amazing stuff, her egg shells are perfect when she's been supplemented. On the bottle it says it can be added to the drinking water every day, but I add it only when I can see her egg shells are starting to get thin again - about once a week at the moment.
