coco
Lily on of my ex batts spends a lot of time standing round fluffed up. She is about 3 years old and has stopped laying, her comb has shrunk and is going paler. Its not mites and she has been wormed and she is eating and drinking and preening ok. She just seems to go through phases of looking miserable, this has been happening on and of for a few months. I have though about taking her to the vet but she has good days and bad days. Could it just be she is feeling her age. Any ideas. Edited March 20, 2011 by Guest
Egluntyne
She could just be winding down, given her age. Might be worth worming her again with Flubenvet, especially if you used one of the herbal supplements previously.
lovebugette
Sounds like Peritonitis to me - I have just posted above yours so that should help. Good luck - it is down to a helpful vet now and they can be hard to come-by. xx
coco
She was wormed with Flubenvet although I will do them all again once Saffron has finished her antibiotics. I don't think its peritonitis as she has no swelling and is eating and drinking ok. When Saffron was ill last week I knew she was ill and needed to see a vet, with Lily I don't get the feeling that she is ill if that makes sense. I just wondered if as Eglutyne suggested she is winding down. I have no experience with older hens and she is an old lady for an ex batt. My other ex batt Lola is fit as a fiddle and still laying every day.
Plum
She could be laying softies and they get eaten before you see them
BocBoc
My first thought was a softie passing through. Our ex-batt Margot was like that for months with her softies when her henopause started. I suspect she's winding down as per previous post. Hope it's nothing else, good luck
sandyhas3chucks
theres only one way to be sure really, pop her to a vet, she could have an infection of some sort and need antibiotics. I have had very poorly girls that still perk up and scratch about and dust bath in between their poorly sad times. They hide illnesss very well. I'm sure you would be happier to get it checked out.
