jackthelad
This is my first time at hatching anything so a beginer. Just arrived home from work to find 1 of the eggs is pipping which is great but they are not due til saturday. they are in a brinsea mini advance which hasn't even stopped turning yet! What do I do now? Shall I stop the eggs from turning, take out the tray and crank up the humidity even though its too early, the pipped egg is wobbling away like mad! Its typical my husband is away tonight with work so ive got no one to panic with..........help please!!!!!
Chucky1
Hi JTL I hope you're doing OK - we've only ever hatched under a broody. When the egg pipped we had a scruffy little duck in about 2 hours. So this post is really just supportive with no experience to draw on I'm afraid. Let us know how you got on. Good Luck.
scarlettohara
Hope someone else comes along to help I think stop turning but I have no idea about humidity for ducks but you don't want them to dry out
karlotta
I'm not sure how best to proceed TBH with ducks, but I'd be interested to find out how you get on as I have 10 runner eggs in the incy at the mo!
jackthelad
So far so good I think.... although slower than I thought the process would be I did stop the tray turning, filled up with water and the humidity is running at about 74%. Over night I got up at 4am to check them couldn't sleep , 4 off them had pipped, by 7am all 5 had pipped, then it was off to work Left work early told them I needed maternity leave The cracks in the eggs are bigger but no shell had fallen off yet, they have bouts of wobbling and when I whistle they sing back its very cute. So no babies yet but won't be to long, got work again tomorrow so hoping they hold on til I get home at 3pm Will let you know how it goes and will take some pics. jackthelad
Well got up at 2am all were still eggs but 1 had a small hole and I could see the tip of a beak every now and then sticking out. Up at 6.30am to 3 baby ducks 1 just getting out of its shell, so cute! the other 2 eggs did not seem to have moved on at all at this time. Off to work leaving them in the inccy to dry Phone call from hubby 12ish he had got home early to a family of 5...... They are now in the brinsea brood ring under an electric hen they have all had a drink and some chick crumb, a little wobbly on their legs but soooo cute Ive just left hubby with the camera so will post some pics later, its time to celebrate with a bottle of wine. Eggs were from Ebay, so happy with the result as it was also our first hatch.
