Advice on grit please

Recommended Posts

I have had my two chickens for three weeks today and they are doing very very well. They are laying alternate days at the moment but occasionally Betty lays on consecutive days. The eggs are lovely, well formed with lovely yellow yolks, so no worries there.

My query is that when I brought the chickens (from a local well known quite upmarket garden centre) I was told to mix the grit in with the pellets so this is what I have been doing. However, since joining this forum, and another one called Poultry Pages, everything I have read points to feeding the pellets separate from the grit. This same information crops up in other places too - other websites, books.

Should I stop mixing the grit in with the pellets, even though Betty and Bessie are quite happily taking it that way? I don't want to keep doing what I am doing if it is wrong and will cause problems with the chickens' health in future. Or is it OK to carry on with what they are used to?

Advice appreciated. :eh:
