Cinnamon
Oh,what a shame. Both my girls have 'Stobies' named for them, & we have had great fun over the years Stobie spotting I loved Eddies work ethos, that even as a trucker, you should look smart,be polite & wear a shirt & tie. I have never met a rude Stobie driver

soapdragon
Oh goodness, how sad and sympathies to The Stobarts. Saw a documentary about the Company a while ago and was SO impressed; shirt and tie for all drivers etc. Very professional! We always play an 'Eddie' game on long car journeys; at the start each one 'guesses' how many 'Eddies' we'll see throughout the journey and the nearest wins! Won't be quite the same now! Mrs Webmuppet
We always play "Ooops, word censored!"s ("Ooops, word censored!"ert Dentressangle trucks) and Stobs ( Stobarts) on any journeys! RIP Eddie Stobart
Old Speckled Hen
Blimey, 56 !!! Heart problems, I gather. His father started the company here in Cumbria and Edward who later ran it sold it to his brother to pursue other things. PS How do you get a lorry named after you? I recall there was a competition to find one of the trucks with a instead of a name and if you spotted it you were put in a draw to have a name inscribed on one of the lorries. Cinnamon
We were fan club members & spotters,so we got a book with all the truck names & details, which we ticked off as we saw them. I think we just wrote & applied to get the trucks named for the children I still have the official naming certificates in their baby books
