craftyhunnypie
I'm going on The Orient Express Northern Belle! Anyone ever been? It obviously states no jeans or trainers, but I really don't know what to choose to wear. Hubby threatened posh crocs & camo's. Yeah right! Clash City Rocker
We were on the Northern Belle in June 2009. Dress Code "Tidy" Most of the men were in Dinner Suites/Black Tie.
craftyhunnypie
Ooo look at you! I think I remember that photo. I will posh up like on my ladies who lunch days. I can't see hubby doing dinner jacket though, it's just not him. Nice shirt & trousers maybe. I'll be in charge of sorting him! Was the experience worth it & where did you go? We are going into North Wales coast I think. Emma.x
Lavenders_Blue
My parents went on the Northern Belle a couple of years ago, my brothers and I bought them tickets for their golden wedding anniversary. My Dad certainly didn't wear a dinner jacket - not his style really, but he did wear shirt, tie and jacket (and trousers obviously!). Not a suit, but just a smart outfit. My mum dressed similarly - skirt, top and jacket with nice shoes and handbag. Neither of them particularly 'dress up' much, although they do both like to look smart. Some people had really gone to town though, apparently!
beach chick
oh that looks gorgeous. how about nice blazer and chinos for himself? with posh shirt and tie if necessary. as for you - go all out for the ladies wot lunch look!
craftyhunnypie
He won't wear chinos & a blazer & to be honest - he would not look nice. I'm going to get him to buy some smart pinstripe trousers & I'll choose the shirt. He reckons he's going for the Curry's / Comet salesman look! I've got a few weeks to scoot round for an outfit for myself yet - should be fun. Emma.x
Clash City Rocker
Was the experience worth it & where did you go? We are going into North Wales coast I think.Emma.x Worth every penny. We got on at Worcester and travelled through Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Oxfordshire and back to Worcester. It was about a 5 hour journey, on a really sunny June evening. Great Food, Wine was extra, and a bit expensive, but you have to have a bottle (or two !!). "Cheese board to die for".
Old Speckled Hen
Oh wonderful, you'll have a great time. I am My rip OH and I joined a private party, before my DD was born and she's 25, and we went all the way to Venice. It was disgustingly opulent but thank God it was free as I spent a fortune on clobber...posh posh posh. Oh those were the days....sigh. Enjoy your day and let's have lots of pictures. craftyhunnypie
I think you have to do the things you can, whilst you can - right? Life is no dress rehearsal! I've got a feeling there is a champagne reception & half a bottle of wine each. We are having a taxi to the station - as it wouldn't be fair for one of us not to drink. I really can't wait. We're going June too. Emma.x
majuka
I have been on the Venice-Simplon Orient Express but only from Doncaster to York. A few years ago I worked at a publishing company specailsing in engineering, rail and hobbyist books and magazines etc. Myself and my boss got invited to come along. It departed at Doncaster and went to York where there was a presentation at the Railway Museum. We had to get a regular train back to Doncaster which was a bit of a let down! It was a wonderful experience, albeit rather short. I wore a suit, as did many of the passengers because a lot of us were there as a work outing. craftyhunnypie
Tomorrow is the day we get to go on The Northern Belle. We were away all last week & when we got home today, our tickets were waiting for us. I'm very impressed. They are in posh leather wallets - lovely! I'm wearing my new black & white spotty dress, red jacket, red shoes & red/black handbag. I am really looking forward to it. I think we are going to the North Wales coast. Looking forward to the food & dining experience. It's nice to feel like a lady! Emma.x

craftyhunnypie
It was absolutely fantastic - I want to go again! Me, hubby & our neighbour went & it was sheer luxury, comfort & class. Good food, lots of wine & brilliant memories. We boarded at Crewe at 11.20am & went all the way to Holyhead (Anglesey) & back. A beautiful meal. Champagne, River Trout Terrine, Turnip Soup with some herb oil & onion bread, Shoulder & cannon of lamb, The ultimate cheese board the size of a table!!!, Black forest gateux in a chocolate cup laden with kirsch, coffee & a trinket box of chocolate truffles. Mmm mmm mmmm. Plus lots of red wine!!!! (hic). Thank god we had a taxi to the station. There was a magician on board & a Titanic style band with a banjo, who were great. It was beautiful following the North Wales Coast & I truly felt like a lady. I bought a steward teddy bear & a cat steward magnet as momento's. I rather liked the champagne flutes too. Even the toilets were stunning! I can say I had a wee on The Orient Express! If you ever get the chance - go on this - it's a brilliant experience. It's expensive but worth every penny! One of those things you have to do in your life! Photos have been taken - but I'm a bit dog tired now from doing nothing - so will get hubby to do them tomorrow night. Old Speckled Hen
Good to hear you had such a wonderful time. Pictures? As you say it's an experience and one of those things you have to do. What else would you do I wonder? How about a champagne balloon trip? I ballooned over the Serengeti and that was unbelievable and had a trip to New York on Concorde I'm too old to bungee but I would do a tandem sky dive and I'd love to see Antarctica.
