How to get a chicken to go to bed?

Recommended Posts

I'm a bit worried about Evangeline.

(white chicken)

She is our new girl. We have kept her separate from our other two girls, Deirdre PP and Mable GNR , by dividing the (purple eglu) run into two segments and using an old rabbit hutch for her to roost in. We had this set up for about 3 weeks (after 2 we let them free range together). Over the weekend we decided to remove the bars separationg the run. There has been a bit of bullying and pecking and we have been squirting water at the two bullies.

Since we've done this, Evangeline won't go to bed at night. She squeezes herself down under the grub and glugs while the other two go into the (purple eglu). Each night we pick her up and pop her into the eglu through the egg hatch.

Any ideas why she is doing this and how to get her in each night?

Thanks

She's probably just still a bit nervous of the others, even if there's no bullying she will still know that she's bottom of the pecking order. I'd go on popping her through the egg-hatch (although she won't come to much harm roosting outside) and I'd guess that given a week or two, she will be going to bed normally with the other girls.
