What Garvo do you feed the babies with?

Recommended Posts

I'm just about to head off to buy some Garvo for the soon to be hatched chicks, but can't decided which! I am leaning towards Alphamix as mum can eat it too, but does anyone know what the Fancy Chick starter pellets are like, as they are cheaper @ £12.90 per 20kg compared to £8.30 for 4kg of the alpha (might be able to get alpha later at £17.35 for 12.5kg). Thank you!

Officially you can feed the chick pellets from day 1, I find them a bit big for my bantams though, they feed much more readily on chick crumb so they get that from day 1 to around day 7-20 when I move them on to the pellets

You could get the Alfastart small pack to cover the first few days then move them to the mini pellets or use Alfachicks

I've got my babies on the alfachick, but will move them onto the mini pellets in a few weeks. I have been told that the mini pellets will see them through until they go on layers pellets :? Is this true? As I have noticed that they do growers cockerels and growers hens, but not a standard growers :?

Well I've gone for Alfamix which is suitable from day two until POL, it also will help mum too.

Unfortunately OH was with me when I bought it (I avoid this usually) and he threw a fit at the cost . I got two 4kg bags and ordered a 12.5kg this came to about £35, he went on about all the FR eggs you could buy, then was moaning about all the bits that had appeared on the bank statement to do with the chooks. This grumpy mood maybe because he was disturbed at 4 am by Onion crowing, he is very anti -Onion and tuts every time he crows - which is quite frequently! Onion maybe living on borrowed time :(

yes you can keep them on the mini pellets till POL

Or you can use the fancy hen grower pellets (not suitable for white birds) or the white bird growers pellets - both will do the job of standard growers pellets

the only snag I found with alfachick was the waste the broody only ate the 'nice' bits so the chicks copied her so I switched the to mini starter pellets right upto moving the two in with the big girls and about 2 weeks before slaughter of 'christmas dinner'
