Olly
I know - the variation in colour, size, freckles etc is so marvellous that it would be great if they tasted different as well! I think you'd have to feed your hens different foodstuffs to notice any difference. One of mine lays small eggs but the yolks are much bigger than the white - don't know if that makes it any more eggciting? They look lovely in the frying-pan! Martin B
Do you know what? I always felt that one of my hens eggs were better for cooking in a saucepan e.g poaching and boiling. But the other girl seemed to lay eggs that were great for frying. Very odd that I thought this. Can't remember why I decided this was the case. Space Chick
All my girls eggs taste delicious, but one of my girls Peri lays eggs that are the most tasty, but this extra nice taste can only be appreciated poached It's very strange, but OH and I always fight over who is going to have a Peri egg poached and they never end up in sales boxes I can't explain why they taste nicer, or what it is that makes them nicer
joegg
YES! Some have a stronger taste than others the Magpie we used to have, laid brown eggs that were very strong in flavour and were easily identified by taste. Our current RIR has the strongest tasting eggs at present and the Orpington the mildest, The bantam eggs are by far the richest tasting. We have never kept two chickens of the same breed at the same time, so taste may be a product of breed. They all taste better than shop bought!
