we have only had to do it once-when they were first here-they were so matted it was impossible to brush it all out-and it becomes difficult for them to walk or pretty much be a cat..the person who had them previously couldnt care for them properly, they werent underfed or anything, jsut didnt get the extra care this breed needs

 

We looked at the possibility of having it done again last year-just for Cleo because she matts up so much faster-because we were going on holiday for a week and knew she would be in a bad way by the time we got back..but eventually my daughter and her bf came to stay so she could make sure that Cleo esp would be kept groomed...

 

They are lovely cats with the most affectionate personality but all the health problems they have just make me think pure breeds like this should not be around, its not fair on them

Ah, they were rescue cats...I understand. Poor things, must have been awful for them. Looks like they have a lovely home now though, and what a beautiful coat Slinky has in the mint pic.

 

There are some very long hair cats near where my folks live and they shear their cats in summer to help them stay cooler!
