Yes, I'm 99% those two are boys. We won't be keeping the boys, in fact, the girls will all be off to new homes as well, but will be staying with us until the summer. atsw Posted June 11, 2011 Author Share Posted June 11, 2011 .... and today Biscuit decided the chicks were old enough to fend for themselves and has abandoned them (7 weeks). She's having nothing to do with them any more, when they come close, she gives them a gentle peck to make clear they must now look after themselves (which they are quite capable of doing, of course). All five have really grown up now, we have three girls and two boys (no boys in the phto's above, as they will be going soon). Out of the five chicks, 4 are frizzle, 1 is normal. Just one quick question, how old were they when they started showing signs of being frizzle? A lot of my chicks had frizzle cocks with the hens, but so far at one week old there is no sign of any of them being frizzle, but then they just have the first 3ish rows of wing feathers showing at the moment. Yes, at about 5 days you start to see the ends of the wing feathers looking 'odd' on a frizzle chick. It helps if some are frizzle and others not, as you get a better comparison. By two weeks it's very clear. The picture below is from my other hatch at two week. The black chick is frizz, the brown one normal.
